How Good is Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Camera? (S9+ Camera Review)

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is one of the most hyped phones of 2018 and will soon hit the stores, almost everything about the phone has already been revealed with the launch and the most important thing it focuses on is the Camera. The Phone slogan's itself is Camera Reimagined.

So What's New?

You may already know that Samsung Galaxy S9 looks very similar in aesthetic (design) to its predecessor which is the Galaxy S8. Yes it's true, you can't really differentiate between those two as they have almost the same design except the Fingerprint scanner position and the bezels have been made even smaller. But we are focusing on the Camera right? It's really improved.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus beats iPhone X, Google Pixel 2 and every other smart phone in Camera according to DxO Mark Test. According to this website, S9 plus has the highest rated camera ever giving rating 99 out of 100, compared to 98/100 of Google Pixel 2 which had the crown before, also it has the highest rated display.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has dual aperture Camera, this is the first time the Galxy S line has got this, it was last featured in Note 8 from Samsung and it was the first time. This enables some extended features like taking images that has a blurred background like DSLR cameras can take, it is like iPhone's Portrait mode but Samsung calls it Live Focus.

Second it has optical image stabilization which is indeed a great feature, when we take pictures of objects that are in motion, they get blurred or like shakey but this helps to take crystal clear images even when they are in motion or you are.

Samsung says that it the camera that takes beautiful photos in different kinds of light. That means it doesn't matter weather it has day light or low light, even super low light. You will get the best picture possible.

The dual camera of S9 Plus features DUAL APERTURE MODE as said before, it has a mechanical camera that can adjusts its aperture from F.15 mode and F.2.4 mode. When there is low light, the mechanical camera aperture maximizes and changes to F.15 so maximum amount of light enters into the camera and you get the best shot and on the other way at day, F2.4 works so you can get the perfect light.

You can also manually control the aperture using the PRO MODE in Camera. Here is an photo from the Samsung's website differentiating between the Aperture.

In low light photos, Samsung's LOW LIGHT NOISE REDUCTION technology comes handy, the camera takes 12 instant photos at once and divides them into 3 parts with different low lightning using the F1.5 aperture and converts them into a single image with the best low light photo possible. That technically means S9 Plus has the best possible low light camera compared to every smart phone, even Google's PIXEL 2.

The phone also features Super Slow Motion mode which well was seen last year in Sony's Xperia phone but Samsung has implemented this feature to S9 plus. Now you can Shoot at incredible speed: 960 frames per second, thanks to the super speed sensor. Show off your directorial skills by adding Super Slow-mo bursts to a video or spotlighting one moment. But it has its hardware limitations too, you can only take 0.20 seconds shots and that converts it into a 6 second video. Now you may think this is quite bad but this is the best possible with current technology, you may thing how you will time it as 0.20 seconds is less than a second, for that the Camera uses a motion detection feature, it will automatically detect if there is motion and will shoot a clip so its useful and you will get a 0.20 second video super slowed to 6 seconds. You can also edit the slow motion videos captured, add different kind of loops and effects instantly!

Portrait mode or Live Focus as Samsung calls it is now even better in Galaxy S9 Plus, you can take beautiful portraits with more background blur and adjust it according to your needs.

Samsung also offers S9 Plus with unlimited Photo storage so you can take as many photos you want and store it into Google Photos, like Google's Pixel phone had offered.
